‘Healthy living’ means maintaining a healthy lifestyle and introducing habits that improve your health. It means being aware of your physical, mental & emotional state and those of people around you and use that information to manage yourself and manage your relationships with others in a cheerful, peaceful & enthusiastic way. It’s taking responsibility for your overall health. It’s about feeling fitter physically, mentally and emotionally.

Getting healthy

A lot of what we do is driven by habit. It can be difficult to change old habits, but there are steps you can take to become healthier. An important first step is identifying less healthy habits and learning new, positive ones to replace them. We need to develop positive habits – Start slowly, be flexible and build on what you already do.

Staying healthy Being healthy is about more than getting fit and feeling better, it’s about staying that way too. Bad habits can re-appear when we are bored, tired, stressed, and anxious or when we feel down. Managing these feelings is very important. Staying or being associated with nutritious people will help in staying healthy.

Yoga & Healthy Living:

Yoga is a science concerning the Mind and not simply as an abstract philosophical enquiry. Yoga is an integral part of our healthy living. Yoga brings about sustained effort and dispassion (vairagyam). Daily practice plays a tremendous role in measuring how healthy an individual is. Practice of Yoga will take the Mind from a habitually distracted state to a habitually attentive state.

There is a tendency in our body towards health. At one level, our body intelligence signals that what we are doing is not alright, but we all have our excuses because we are following our mind and emotion. The intelligence fails when you become a slave to your mind and creates problems on a physical level. And soon, it becomes a pattern.

The mind is our tool and the goal. The struggling mind is the tool and the perfected mind is the goal. Our mind is constantly changing, moving, running very fast, from thought to thought, from object to object. How to bring this mind to a state of “rest and attention”?

Yoga is the ability to direct the Mind exclusively towards an object and sustain the focus in that direction without any distraction.

Yoga is when the mind has one and only one activity in all its totality and that the other activities which would distract the mind are absent.
